Not so nice hard drivers anymore - I do not like lvm!

I feel that I have to warn anyone that reads a howto on seting MythTV up and gets the advice that you should use lvm so that you may add drives later. Don't do it! The computer will crash on moderade disk usage.

Furthermore, you should NOT use XFS on that lvm, since XFS do not shrink. So, when you want to do something about your current setup, you cannot simply remove the HD from the lvm since a major part of the filesystem may be on is and you CAN NOT SHRINK IT.

So, you'd have to get storage space someware to copy files on the lvm, delete the lmv and then coy the files back to one of the disks. This is what I am trying to do now.. I sure hope I'll find a friend with a large hard drive and on the same network as me very soon...

What was happening with your LVM volume group? I use LVM2, and some partitions use XFS (like my tv recordings partition) and it has worked out very nice so far. I worry about one hard drive crashing, since there is no redundancy. I didn't think about having to remove a drive, the drives I put in there are in for good.

I just found your blog about mythTV. Nicely done.

Hi Andrew,

I was having problems with the box freezing and occationally having to reboot since the volume refused write requests. Without LVM, everything works prefectly.
